THINK PINK

The Best of April

#thinkpinkthinkbigmoments

As the past few months have been quite difficult for me, I need to remind myself of the little pleasures in everyday life that make me "think pink". So, I decided in the end of each month to round up and share with you the little things that made me happiest, like a leisurely meal with MrA, a bright lipstick, a good read, a walk in the sunshine in an amazing pair of shoes, a funny moment. I hope that you will enjoy it and that you all have a wonderful May!

1. FOOD/RESTAURANT: Loved eating at the talk-of-the-town – place to "be*" restaurant @Excelsior Hotel (Thessaloniki, Greece) – great food, relaxed atmosphere, modern environment. I can’t wait to go back for cocktails with the girls!

2. RECIPE: Made a batch of cookies with cranberries and hazelnuts from the book "Η Ελένη Ψυχούλη Μαγειρεύει του Καλού Καιρού" – so crunchy and tasty that everyone thought I bought them from a bakery…

3. FILM: "Philomena" because Judi Dench rocks!

4. BOOK : The Shock of the Fall - took me out of my reading comfort zone.

5. SONG: "Blush" by The Raveonettes rocked my world!

6. EVENT: Exploring 3.800 square meters of affordable fashion and home accessories @ H&M’s flagship store opening in Thessaloniki, Greece.

7. ITEM OF AFFECTION: Massive beauty crush on this lipstick, which is basically spring on my lips.

8. ARTICLE: I recently updated my job title as freelancer in my LinkedIn profile. Here a brilliant piece on the negative stigma and the equal amount of mystique for freelancers.

9. BEST / AKWARD / FUNNY MOMENT: Celebrating my name day with MrA at a great restaurant is always fun, but it was even more fun (or not!) people starring at me while I was taking a photo of a huge burger, before eating it. Hey that’s blogger’s life ….

10. MY TOP RATED BLOGPOST: It was exciting to see how many of you read and liked my wish list from H&M Home @Thessaloniki, Greece

#thinkpinkthinkbigmoments

1. FOOD/RESTAURANT: Πέρασα όμορφα στο place to "be*" restaurant @Excelsior Hotel στη Θεσσαλονίκη – ωραίο φαγητό, χαλαρή ατμόσφαιρα, μοντέρνο περιβάλλον.

3. FILM: "Philomena" γιατί η Judi Dench rocks!

4. BOOK : The Shock of the Fallπέρα από τα συνηθισμένα!

5. SONG: "Blush" από τους The Raveonettes rocked my world!

Hey that’s blogger’s life ….

10. MY TOP RATED BLOGPOST: Wow πάνω από 200 από εσάς διαβάσατε και κάνατε like στη wish list με τα αντικείμενα που θα ήθελα από το H&M Home στη Θεσσαλονίκη!

THINK BIG

Books on my Nightstand

There are so many books on my reading list right now that I can barely keep up with what I’ve written to my Evernote wish list. For the lazy days of this Easter holiday, I chose two books : the first person narrative by Nathan Filer, The Shock of the Fall and the quirky, utterly unique  story of  The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson, that would take me out of my reading comfort zone. Both books are bestsellers-page turners, with suspense and unexpected depths concealed (or not!) beneath the dark humour. I’m so glad I bought a copy of both, as I wouldn’t be able to appreciate their stunning cover design and embossed feel with an e-reader.

The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer: A novel that deals with fragile, often well hidden parts of life, mental illness (schizophrenia) and family grief. An emotional journey is bravely narrated and to my surprise is analysed without much sentimentality, but often treated with dark humour, by the patient – hero of the book. So vividly, he explains: "Mental illness turns people inwards. That’s what I reckon. It keeps us forever trapped by the pain of our own minds, in the same way that the pain of a broken leg or a cut thumb will grab your attention, holding it so tightly that your good leg or your good thumb seem to cease to exist." p. 277

Despite the fact that the main event of the story is revealed in the first chapter of the book, "I’ll tell you what happened because it will be a good way to introduce my brother. His name’s is Simon. I think you are going to like him. I really do. But in a couple of pages he’ll be dead. And he was never the same after that." p.5, there was an underlying suspense throughout that kept me turning the pages and refused to let it go until I had finished it. I believe it’s a groundbreaking story that well deserves to be shared with other readers!

I am half-way through The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared and I will report back next month.

Please leave a comment letting me know of any books you highly recommend – I’m always looking to add to my reading list.

Επειδή, το βιβλίο The Shock of the Fall δεν έχει μεταφραστεί μέχρι τώρα στα ελληνικά, η σημερινή ανάρτηση είναι μόνο στα αγγλικά.
